We left Tahoe at 1 pm and what should have been a 3 hour drive ended up being a 6.5 hour drive back to San Francisco.
There are many reasons it took a long time, such as
- Scotty had a bit of cold/stuffy nose so we had to make sure he was breathing properly
- Scotty had a bit of a problem with the altitude and was dehydrated so we had to stop to feed him
- And with every stop, he had to be burped
- And with every stop, he went to the bathroom -- a lot
- And with every stop, we had to change his clothes because of his spitting up milk and his ... shall we say his problems with not wearing absorbent enough diaper.
And we also ran into traffic coming back to the city because the Bay Bridge was closed. (Can you imagine a bridge being closed because strong winds popped loose some screws and caused some debris to fly around).
We finally got back to the city at 7:00, just in time for Scotty to meet his Grandmother for the first time. The minute he saw her, he smiled.
After dinner (and after Scotty watched the Yankees win the second game of the World Series), we went to sleep. BUT... we had to rush to the hospital at 3 am in the morning because Scotty wasn't breathing properly. Turns out the cold he caught in Tahoe stuffed him up so much no air was getting through his nose.
But, the minute we put him on the scale in the hospital he blew out a big 'bugger' from his nose. (Bugger is the medical term the nurse used several times during our visit). And once the bugger fell out of his nose he was breathing again.
Next time, we will be prepared. We bought some special nose suction devices ...
