Today's major milestones

Big day here.

S. S. Wilder sailed quietly into the night and slept over 5 hours last night. According to the Baby Experts, he has officially slept through his first night. Nice, eh? Time to celebrate (except he is crying as I write this and it is 10 pm PST : )

S. S. Wilder is beginning to speak. Only one problem. We still can't understand what he is saying. We have been searching the web for a baby talk translator.  

Can't wait for it to be midnight -- so we can start the next day and see what happens.

Window gazing

Scotty likes to look out the window a lot. In fact, he seems to be always focusing intently on something outside. So, we now have given him his own indoor lawn chair so he can sit down and look out our windows whenever he wants.

And today, we also treated him to something special. We took him to St. Dominic's Church, where he will be baptized later this month so he could look at some very special stain glass windows. Needless to say, he was very impressed.

We also took him to St. D's for his final prep session before the big baptism. He seems ready to go. During the planning session he listened to the sound of rain drops (I have all different sounds on my iPhone for him to listen to when he is restless) and dozed in and out of the conversation. Hopefully, the water during the baptism will not out him to sleep.

New Vocabulary

Scotty's night nanny recently taught me some new words:

• Dream Feeding: This is when a baby drinks milk while he is sleeping... and the advice is that you don't wake him, don't change his diaper (unless it is really soggy), and to just let him drink and sleep.

• Cluster Feeding: This is what it sounds like: A group of breast or bottle feedings closely spaced together, usually baby-initiated.

"Things are coming into focus"

Yesterday, I saw Scotty's pupils for the first time -- and he is also beginning to react to our facial expressions. With smiles, of course.
