Elizabeth and I pulled up anchor from the seas of Sausalito and sailed to San Francisco.
Next week, we plan to launch a new stage in our life -- and move into a new home.
Fortunately, we took care of all the logistics earlier in the month.
And we also had some help from Mr. and Mrs. Abbott, who helped us pick out paint colors, carpet colors, and other colors.. lots of colors!.
We are grateful that they are there (and here : ) to help out while we are trying to get back on our feet after Natalie's passing away.
Moving is never an easy thing. Especially if one of your goals is to simplify your life.
Besides coordinating with movers, real estate folks, etc., And cleaning up our house. Here's what we did:
- Donated of 10 years worth of music CDs (Classics, like Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Green Day)
- Donated most of Elizabeth's clothes (All my stuff fit into 5 suitcases while all Elizabeth's fit into one big bag)
- Donated hundreds of books (Now that you can buy used books at Amazon and now we have a public library down the street)
- Recycled piles of newspapers (I have stopped subscribing to newspapers because I can read everything on the web. .. I love going to the NY Times website)
- Got rid of my 'bachelor' like bowls and plates (Elizabeth didn't like those wild 1970s colors)
- Donated two old TVs -- (We might get an Apple TV someday)
So now we have a nice new house to start over with so we can start decorating and acquiring stuff : )
As stated above, we are looking forward to starting a new stage of our life. We will miss not having Natalie physically with us. It is difficult to move into a new place where we had made plans for a baby room, for special baby locks so she wouldn't open kitchen cabinets, for baby gates so she wouldn't fall down the stairs, .. and for special kid software on my computer.: )
